Inayat (Shraddha Kapoor) and Sahej (Varun Dhawan) are both passionate dancers and captains to their respective teams Rule Breakers and Street Dancers. He and his crew are NRI Indians living in the UK while she and her friends are of Pakistani origin. The film does display India Pakistan rivalry but thankfully it isn't jingoistic.

Both nurse a grudge towards each other -- it isn't explained why -- and want to ultimately prove their superiority. A top notch competition in London gives them the chance to have the ultimate showdown and stamp their authority once and for all. But along the way, both they and their respective crews learn that there’s more to life than perfecting dance moves. They learn valuable life lessons which make them grow both as people, as well as dancers and helps them utilise their craft for a bigger cause.

Director Remo D’Souza has left no stone unturned to make his third dance film -- after ABCD and ABCD 2 -- as opulent and eye-catching as possible. The opening acts of both Varun and Shraddha set the right tone and the dance montages only get bigger and better as the battle progresses. He has used every kind of dance genre there is, be it Locking and Popping, Contemporary, Slo Mo, Jazz, et al. His team of talented dancers comprising Dharmesh Yelande, Punit Pathak, Salman Yusuff Khan and Raghav Juyal, who have made a name for themselves over various dance shows and the previous two films have been utilised to maximum effect. The inclusion of Nora Fatehi and Prabhu Dheva to this mix adds to the sparkle. Nora's character of Mia raises the oomph factor. She really can make the dance floor come alive and Prabhu Dheva shows once more that there isn't a better dancer than him currently. Period. His new age rendition of the classic Muqabala song takes you on a major nostalgia trip.

But this is more than just a dance film. The plight of illegal immigrants too gets addressed in the film. The track of Aparshakti Khurana's character lends the film a serious undertone. Remo has tried to mix some great dance choreography with real world concerns and while the film's heart is in the right place the two subjects don't exactly mix well together. At places, it feels like we're watching two films. And that kind of derails the narrative and takes the attention away from dance.

Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan look good together and the portions showcasing their rivalry keeps the pace flowing. They have worked hard on their respective characters, perfecting their dance moves and have come out at the top of the class.

The 3D effects were kind of unnecessary and the length could have been shortened as well. Street Dancer 3D does offer a visual spectacle when it comes to dance but the patchy story and screenplay dilutes the overall impact.
